Local music charity Support Act has set a target of $20 million for its COVID-19 Emergency Appeal which is aiming to raise money for workers in the music industry affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

The not-for-profit organisation has already put forward $100,000 to kickstart the campaign.

"Like everybody else, events that we have had planned for the coming weeks and months have all either been cancelled or postponed," Support Act CEO Clive Miller said while appearing on a special The Green Room podcast episode this week.

"We're seeing a dramatic increase in the numbers of people already reaching out to contact us because they're struggling either with their mental health wellbeing or their financial situation."
