UPDATE - 4.54pm
Victoria Police have issued the below statement to The Music today:
Victoria Police routinely liaises with organisers and venue operators in the lead up to events to discuss safety and security, manage potential risks and consider anything that may need to be implemented to ensure the community is safe.
Officers met with a venue in the CBD last week in relation to an event that was planned over the weekend.
Although we understand these performers have had their events cancelled in other states, any decision to postpone, cancel or proceed with individual events are made by the event organiser and/or venue operator.
Victoria Police understands that on this occasion the event did not go ahead.
A member of Onefour has claimed that "the powers that be are not playing fair" after the Australian drill group's show in Melbourne was cancelled just a day before the concert was to take place.
The Western Sydney outfit were scheduled to perform at 170 Russell on Sunday night, however the group confirmed on Saturday evening that the show had been called off.
“Due to reasons beyond our control, Live Nation have been advised Onefour at 170 Russell can no longer take place," a statement issued on Saturday read.
The news comes just months after Onefour claimed that NSW Police forced the cancellation of a show in Sydney this past August and alleged that police contacted the venue three times about calling the show off.
"They want us to get us off the street, yet they won’t give us a chance to," Onefour said at the time.
"We’ve played three shows with no problems, yet they’re still trying to shut us down. While we’re trying to work and be productive, they want to flex their authority."
Aussie hip hop artist Briggs has thrown his support behind Onefour, saying on Twitter the way they have been treated is "unfair and bullshit".
"Let the boys play. Let them thrive and be great," Briggs said.
The Music has contacted Live Nation, 170 Russell and Victoria police for comment.
Onefour's Australian tour continues in Adelaide on Wednesday night.
