Police are investigating a shooting incident that took place at a Melbourne nightclub on Sunday morning around 3.20am.

It's believed that roughly six shots were fired at the nightclub in a drive-by shooting before a stolen Porsche fled the scene. The vehicle was found destroyed on the outer fringes on the city around 5am.

According to The Age, 37-year-old security guard Aaron Khalid Osmani was shot outside Prahran's Love Machine nightclub and later died in hospital.

It's reported that in addition to Osmani, three other people were injured in the incident, including a 28-year-old person still in critical condition at The Alfred Hospital.

A 50-year-old man and 29-year-old man both sustained non-life threatening injuries, while a 26-year-old man presented himself to hospital on Sunday afternoon with non-life threatening injuries. A 20-year-old woman has also been hospitalised as it's suspected she may fallen at the scene and hit her head.

Police have advised that while an investigation into the incident is underway that "the exact circumstances are still being established". Homicide detectives are also investigating a link between the incident and recent extortion attempts "by at least two outlaw motorcycle gangs".

Police are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via their website.
