The Triffid
The Triffid Launch Party
A new live music venue puts down roots on Brisbane's music map!

The Triffid, Brisbane's new live music venue, will open its doors at the end of October and is set to be the city's hang space for the summer!

Located in one of Newstead's historic WWII hangers, The Triffid offers a medium sized concert space with an 800 capacity.

Developed primarily by musician John Collins (ex Powderfinger) in partnership with leading music industry figures Paul Piticco and Jessica Ducrou (Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Secret Sounds Touring), and Brisbane hospitality identity Brett McCall, The Triffid has been 18 months in development.

“I spent 25 years touring with Powderfinger, playing all manner of venues, so it was really important to me to build a venue that was not only somewhere that punters looked forward to going to, but a space that bands enjoy playing at as well. I know the importance of having a room that sounds good, and that has been a major focus.” said Collins.

With its imposing arched roofline and 490 square metre outdoor beer garden, The Triffid will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, playing host to a mix of national and international touring acts alongside Brisbane's finest. And that's who will hit the stage first!

From October 30 The Triffid will test the waters with Triffid Seeds, a three-night showcase of Brisbane's wealth of emerging acts. See Hello Hokkaido, Outliers, Avaberée, The Royales, Tundra and Salvadarlings christen the Triffid stage. Free entry!

On November 8 The Triffid will officially kick into action with a Launch Party featuring electrifying Melbourne 9-piece Saskwatch, Brisbane indie favourites The Creases and Byron Bay locals MT Warning.

Kicking off on November 9, Triffid Roots will take over the beer garden each Sunday, curated and hosted by triple j's Sarah Howells. The first edition of Triffid Roots will feature Pat Tierney and Liam Gerner.

Other upcoming highlights include Ed Kuepper, Paul Dempsey, Giants of Science, The Gin Club, Screamfeeder, The Delta Riggs, Megan Washington and more.

With a reputation as one of Melbourne's most electrifying live acts, triple j favourites Saskwatch have ignited venues around the world with their upbeat tracks, including the GW McLennan Tent Splendour In The Grass earlier this year.

The Creases infectious tunes quickly caught the attention of triple j and the music loving public. They've supported Franz Ferdinand, The Preatures, Jake Bugg and most recently DMA's on their national tour. They've played UK's The Great Escape, SXSW and dropped their debut EP Gradient two days before they hit the stage at Splendour In The Grass 2014.

Over the past twelve months MT WARNING have toured the USA twice and opened for The Temper Trap, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Rubens and Circa Waves. They've played Field Day London, Reeperbahn Germany and Bigsound. Then earlier this year they released their debut album Midnight Set to acclaim both in Australia and further afield, scoring them spots on the Laneway Festival and Splendour In The Grass lineups.
