Gold Coast nightclub East closed its doors over the weekend after nearly a decade of operations following allegations that it owes creditors up to $1 million.
As The Gold Coast Bulletin reports, the nightlife hot spot shut up shop on Saturday (27 January) with administrators appointed this past Monday.
An insolvency notice has confirmed that the company has gone into administration with Worrell’s Solvency appointed as administrators. It’s understood that of the money owed The Australian Tax Office is the biggest creditor.
East’s Facebook and Instagram have been removed while the official website remains live.
Owner James Tweddell commented last June that he was interested in putting the venue up for sale and that he’d accept offers for the business.
The Broadbeach location has conducted a number of high profile concerts from the likes of Timmy Trumpet, Peking Duk and Lil Jon as well as playing host to visiting celebrities including Orlando Bloom, Snoop Dogg and Naughty By Nature.
A creditors meeting will be held at Worrells HQ in Robina next Thursday, 8 February.
The Music has reached out to Tweddell for comment, however the venue's phone line has been disconnected.
