Here to bring some melodic indie white noise genius to the V Festival line-up, the brothers Reid (Jim &
William), joined by Phil King (bass), Mark Crozer (guitar) and Loz Colbert (drums), will also be playing
three Headlining shows in Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne.
Introducing the world to a sound dense in feedback with equal parts Phil Spector and Beach Boys inspired
pop converging with formless guitar distortion, The Jesus and Mary Chain have inspired everyone from My
Bloody Valentine to Dinosaur Jr.
Their 1985 debut LP Psychocandy still stands the test of time. Some Candy Talking, Just Like Honey, You
Trip Me Up, all still sound as relevant today as they did 22 years ago. The follow up release Darklands in
1987, whilst stripping away the feedback, still exposed the skeletal guitar pop at the music’s core.
A collection of B sides and demos titled Barbed Wire Kisses followed in 1988. Automatic featuring a more
tightly wound brand of feedback, while 1992’s release Honey’s Dead garnered the band further notoriety
in the UK with the banning of the first single Reverence because of the opening lyrics ‘I wanna die just like
Jesus Christ, I wanna die on a bed of spikes’.
In 1994, a teaming up with Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star saw the release of the gorgeous Sometimes
Always single from the almost acoustic album Stoned & Dethroned. In 1998 The Jesus & Mary Chain
released Munki, which would turn out to be their last album before disbanding.
Reforming to play 2007’s Coachella Festival, their jaw-dropping set saw The Jesus & Mary Chain bringing
their own unique style back to life, prompting a renewed touring energy that now finds the band back in
Australia.
Don’t miss this chance to engulf yourself in ribbons of guitar fuzz.
